Raphael Fischer: Sustainable Development in the Age of AI

Abstract:

Sustainable development, with the associated UN development goals, attempts to balance the needs of the environment, society, and the economy. In this context, the lecture highlights the dual role of artificial intelligence (AI), a key technology that offers opportunities for sustainable innovation on the one hand, but must also be examined in terms of sustainability on the other. Based on the core concepts, an overview of the state of AI research in the field of sustainability will also be provided, for example in relation to resource requirements, transparency, trust, and accessibility.

The lecture series can be credited with 1 CP as part of the studium oecologicum.
