New Business Informatics degree course starts in winter semester 2024/25

Enrolment for the Bachelor's degree course in Business Information Systems at TU Dortmund University is now open.
Studying computer science after leaving school - or would you prefer economics? A new degree course at the Technical University of Dortmund is aimed at anyone interested in the exciting interfaces between the two subjects. The Bachelor's degree in Business Informatics starts in the winter semester 2024/25, with the Master's course following a year later.
At a time of rapid technological change, there is a demand for specialists who not only understand the technical aspects, but also the economic impact of new technologies and can make use of them. This is exactly where the new Business Informatics course at TU Dortmund University comes in: "Business informatics trains people to design practically relevant IT systems for use in business and society," says Prof. Christian Janiesch, Professor of Enterprise Computing at the Faculty of Computer Science and one of the initiators of the course. "For example, you can learn how to design innovative applications with AI and how to successfully integrate AI into operational processes in companies." His colleague Prof. Manuel Wiesche from the Faculty of Business and Economics adds: "Studying business informatics enables you to understand the digital transformation and use its economic and social potential, for example to fundamentally rethink processes in companies or to develop innovative digital business models."
The new degree program teaches the basics of both subjects
Students learn the basics of software technology, machine learning and business information systems. At the same time, they learn relevant business fundamentals. At the interface between the two subjects, the focus is on the socio-technical design of information systems, which should do justice to the complex interrelationships between people, tasks and technology. The course covers three central subject areas: Data Management & Applied Artificial Intelligence, Business Engineering & Process Automation and Digital Transformation in Business and Society. It also includes practical projects and questions: For example, collaborations with companies such as DB Schenker, adesso SE and Evonik Industries AG will prepare students for the job market.
