The DemoBin.DataBin joint project has been launched at the Department of Computer Science to open up new ways of safe and automated ship navigation in inland shipping. The sub-project led by Dr. Alexander Puzicha (Chair of Practical Computer Science) is developing a data and infrastructure platform for collecting and analyzing extensive sensor data as well as AI-based models for classifying ship types and predicting trajectories.
Together with partners from research and industry - including DST, BAW, RWTH Aachen University, UDE and Addix GmbH - the Department of Computer Science is forming a strong consortium that closely interlinks simulation, laboratory testing and real tests. The aim is to further develop automation systems in such a way that they at least reach or exceed the safety level of today's ship navigation.
