Computer science is no longer confined to computers. Experience the future of autonomous systems on September 1, 2025, at Joseph-von-Fraunhofer-Straße 25—live at TU Dortmund University!

Autonomous vehicles, virtual humans, and intelligent machines: contemporary computer science is leaving the screen and entering the physical world. As part of Dortmund Digital Week, we invite you to an exclusive laboratory tour of computer science at TU Dortmund University. The tour will kick off with an exciting introductory lecture by Prof. Dr. Mario Botsch on the topic: Realistic virtual human models: creation, simulation, and applications. Realistic digital models of humans have numerous exciting areas of application – from computer games and virtual avatars that represent us in the metaverse or in virtual therapy programs to treatment planning in medicine. The lecture will show how realistic virtual humans can be created using 3D scanning, how these virtual models are animated and simulated, and will showcase interesting applications from current projects. Afterwards, we will open our laboratories to you! Immerse yourself in the world of safe autonomous systems – with guided tours, live demos, interaction, and space for discussion:

  • Soccer robots – Six-legged teams with game intelligence
  • Autonomous racing cars – Who wins: humans or machines?
  • 3D scanners & avatar creation – Let yourself be transformed into a digital twin
  • Research vehicles for transportation – Cargo bikes as mobile laboratories
  • Networking & asking questions – Our researchers provide exciting insights

Whether you are a school pupil, student, professional, or simply enthusiastic about technology, come and experience how computer science is changing our world today.
