The DFG has approved the new research group “Improving Resource Efficiency in Data-Driven Modeling for the Design of CNC-Controlled Milling Processes.” The School of Computer Science extends its warmest congratulations to Petra Wiederkehr and all participating researchers on this achievement.
The work of this interdisciplinary research network aims to make complex milling processes more efficient and resource-friendly. Modern, computer-controlled manufacturing processes already rely on extensive data to precisely implement component geometries and optimally adjust process parameters. The research group is now taking a decisive step further by developing data-driven models based on high-quality, process-informed data.
To this end, sensors are installed directly in the machines, which continuously provide measurement data during the milling process. This data is used in conjunction with data from experiments and simulations to continuously adapt and improve the models. This approach aims to enable not only more precise but also more sustainable manufacturing processes.
In addition to concrete research results, the research group also promises far-reaching insights for the future of data-driven production. The School of Computer Science is pleased to be able to make an important contribution to innovative and resource-efficient technologies through this project.
