Welcome to the Department of Computer Science, Prof. Dr. Michael Kamp!

Before accepting his appointment to the Department of Computer Science, Michael Kamp was head of the “Trustworthy Machine Learning” research group at the Institut für KI in der Medizin (IKIM) at University Hospital Essen. With his professorship in “Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence,” he is part of the Lamarr Institute for Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence.
One of the questions that forms the basis of Michael Kamp's research is how artificial intelligence can support clinical decision-making and enable new forms of medical research. In his inaugural lecture, Michael Kamp will address the trustworthiness of AI-based systems in this sensitive context and present his research, which combines theoretical understanding with practical relevance. The lecture will thus link key trustworthiness goals with the practical realities of healthcare and highlight the ongoing collaboration between the Lamarr Institute and the Institut für KI in der Medizin (IKIM), which is results in a reflection on what is needed to bridge the gap between research and clinical practice.
The Department of Computer Science is pleased about welcoming Michael Kamp to the Lamarr Institute for Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence, where he will provide exciting impetus for research and teaching in this highly relevant field of science.
For planning purposes, please register for the event here here by November 7, 2025.
