Kevin Buchin: Algorithms and sustainability
Abstract:
How can algorithms contribute to solving ecological and social challenges? This talk will shed light on fields of application in which algorithmic methods can contribute to sustainability.
First, we show how trajectory analysis algorithms help to extract behavioral patterns from GPS data of wildlife and thus improve conservation measures. We then discuss route planning for sustainable mobility and how personalized bicycle tours can be calculated efficiently using algorithms. Finally, we present the RAPTOR algorithm as an example of modern route planning in public transport.
