International experts and young talents will meet in Dortmund from July 27-31, 2026 for the ELLIS Summer School on AutoML.

The ELLIS Summer School on Automated Machine Learning (AutoML) will take place in Dortmund from July 27 to 31, 2026. The multi-day event brings together international experts, researchers and young talents and is organized in cooperation with the Lamarr Institute for Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence.

AutoML is currently evolving rapidly - especially with the rise of Foundation Models and Large Language Models (LLMs). The Summer School picks up on these developments and teaches both the basics and current research topics, including:

  • Hyperparameter optimization and model selection
  • Scaling and application of foundation models
  • LLMs for efficient experimentation
  • Agentic AutoML (focus 2026)

The program offers a compact and practice-oriented introduction to modern AutoML approaches. It is aimed at students, researchers and experts from the field and also offers an opportunity for exchange and networking around the next generation of intelligent machine learning systems.

There are no formal requirements for participation. The participation fee is €350 per person. Further information and the registration form can be found here.
