Best Paper Award for Dortmund computer scientist at EMSOFT

Great success for two Dortmund scientists: Prof. Dr. Falk Howar and Prof. Dr. Jian-Jia Chen received the Best Paper Award of the ACM International Conference on Embedded Systems (EMSOFT) at the Embedded Systems Week from Sept. 29 to Oct. 4, 2024 in Raleigh. Other authors of the award-winning paper are the young Dortmund scientists Harun Teper, Daniel Kuhse, Mario Günzel and Georg von der Brüggen.

Title: Thread Carefully: Preventing Starvation in the ROS 2 Multi-Threaded Executor

This paper explains why the current design of the Robot Operating Systems 2 (ROS2) suffers from starvation under multithreaded executors and proposes a  minimal change in the software architecture to ensure  starvation- and deadlock-free behavior.
