Four TU graduates honored for outstanding theses

At the beginning of May, the Hans Uhde Foundation awarded four TU Dortmund University graduates the Hans Uhde Prize for their outstanding achievements. Graduates from Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts and an employee of thyssenkrupp Uhde GmbH were also honored at the event.
In the year of the 40th award ceremony, Dr. Tim-Philip Eisenhardt, Head of Human Resources thyssenkrupp Uhde and Site Manager Dortmund, looked back on the establishment of the Hans Uhde Foundation in 1986. The founder of the foundation, Dipl.-Ing. Hans Uhde, was particularly keen to support young people for special achievements. Prof. Tamara Appel, Rector of Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts, also emphasized the importance of the foundation for the promotion of science, education and training in her welcoming address. Prof. Stefan Kempen, Professor of Electrical Energy Systems at Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts, gave the keynote speech on "Kilovolt battery systems: A disruptive innovation enables low-loss electricity storage".
The Hans Uhde Prize was awarded to graduates from the departments of Computer Science, Biological and Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Information Technology and Mechanical Engineering. Niklas Burkhardt from the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology received the award for his work "Development and comparison of different measuring circuits for determining the on-resistance of wide-bandgap semiconductors". Hilde Gerold from the Department of Biological and Chemical Engineering was honored for her work "Enhancing Control in Chemical Processes using Reinforcement Learning with Human Feedback". Laurenz Mätzig from the Department of Mechanical Engineering received the prize for his research "Efficient computational multiscale methods: Theory, numerics and applications". Daniel Alexander Spenner from the Department of Computer Science was honored for his work "Decomposing Finite Languages with an Eye on Efficiency".
In addition to the four graduates from TU Dortmund University, four graduates from Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts were also honored: Matthis Hofmann, Tom Miklejewski, Joshua Sichtig and Michelle Volkmer. Karan Bagga, Chief Technology Officer of thyssenkrupp Uhde Australia Pty Ltd, received the award for outstanding achievements in over 22 years at Uhde and his contributions to the development of green ammonia technologies.
