SPEAR project wins 2nd place in the "Forum Junge Spitzenforschung" competition

It all started with a rough idea: what if we could predict how much energy we would need to run a program before we did? Maximilian Krebs investigated this question in his bachelor's thesis. After graduating, he continued this task and, together with the Secure Software Engineering research group, expanded the SPEAR approach. It is now a working Visual Studio code plugin that makes developers aware of the potential energy costs per line.

We submitted SPEAR to the "Forum Junge Spitzenforschung" competition and won 2nd prize for 2025. This year's theme was "Energy and Climate - Together for the Future". Max presented the project very well with a project presentation at the selection event. We are delighted that this very young project has already received so much recognition.

Together we will continue on this path and make SPEAR even more precise, robust and portable in the coming years. Stay tuned, or better still, become a part of it!

And if you say you've heard the name and the award before... then you're right. SPEAR has also won:
