On October 1, 2026, the new Dean’s Office of the Computer Science department at TU Dortmund University began its work. Prof. Dr. Mario Botsch has taken over the position of dean from Prof. Dr. Jens Teubner, and Prof. Dr. Falk Howar supports him as the new associate dean. Prof. Dr. Peter Ulbrich has taken over the position of Dean of Academic Affairs from Prof. Dr. Stefan Harmeling and is responsible for matters related to academic programs and teaching. The Faculty Council had already elected the three-member team on July 22, 2026.

The Dean’s Office coordinates the strategic direction and further development of the department. As one of Germany’s largest computer science departments, it encompasses a broad range of disciplines—from theoretical foundations to practical and technical computer science, and on to application-oriented fields of research. In addition to excellent research, a scientifically sound and practice-oriented education, as well as the continuous development of academic programs, are central components of its profile.

With the start of their new term, the leadership team takes on the task of jointly advancing these diverse areas and actively shaping the framework conditions for research, teaching, and student studies.

The department of Computer Science wishes Prof. Dr. Mario Botsch, Prof. Dr. Falk Howar, and Prof. Dr. Peter Ulbrich a successful start and every success in their new roles.
